Papyrus 52 (P52) and Papyrus 66 (P66) are critical pieces of evidence affirming the early transmission of the Gospel of John, supporting the claim that the New Testament is based on eyewitness accounts. P52, the earliest known fragment, places the Gospel of John in circulation within a close time frame to the events it describes, reinforcing its authenticity. P66, a nearly complete manuscript, demonstrates the careful preservation of the text by early Christian scribes. Their existence strengthens the argument that the Gospel writers were documenting real historical events, as their writings were copied and distributed within living memory of the eyewitnesses.
John 18:31-33 (ESV):
31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.”
32 This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”

This verse marks the beginning of Paul's journey into Macedonia, carrying the Gospel into Europe for the first time. Samothrace, a rugged island in the Aegean Sea, played a key role in this voyage.
After Samothrace, Paul and his companions landed in Neapolis (modern-day Kavala, Greece), the gateway to Philippi, where he would later meet Lydia and be imprisoned.
This journey would lead to some of the most powerful moments in the early church, proving that God’s Word always reaches where it is meant to go.
